Teen with Cancer Dies Just Two Days after Marrying Her Best Friend
A cancer-stricken teenage girl died on Valentine’s Day but while this piece of news wasn’t really out of the ordinary, her passing made headlines across many news sites and blogs all over the world because she died just 2 days after marrying her best friend.
Life had been going better for 19-year-old Lydia Dominguez.
She had survived kidney cancer back when she was 15 years old. Things looked brighter for the young lady when she met Joshua Ordonez early in 2017. While they had only met online and fell in love over the internet, theirs was a special connection.
Joshua wasn’t just Lydia’s boyfriend, she felt that he was also her best friend. These two were surely soulmates.
But just when they thought they are going to have their ‘happily ever after’, fate played a cruel joke on the young lovers. Lydia’s cancer came back. This time, though, it was harsher than before and quickly metastasized to other parts of her body.
The prognosis was bad. She wasn’t expected to live for many months; she was given just weeks or possibly just days to live!
Shocked over the situation but also wanting to show his love and support for his girlfriend, Joshua decided it was time that they meet in person. He came to visit on Thanksgiving Day.
“We just didn’t focus too much on that. We focused on how we could make each other happy in the days that we had together,” the young man said.
Time was running out for the young lovers. But Joshua was determined to make Lydia happy in the remaining days she had; thus, he decided to marry her.
On February 12, he went back to El Paso Children’s Hospital in Texas and proposed to Lydia. She didn’t hesitate to say “Yes!” despite knowing they aren’t likely to have any future together.
Knowing they probably didn’t have much time on their hands, the two got married four hours later, in hastily planned ceremony attended by close friends, family, and the hospital staff.
An excited Lydia got up for her wedding which was held at the hospital where she was confined. Her wish of marrying her best friend has been fulfilled. It was the happiest day in her life.
Sadly, she died on Valentine’s Day. A hospital spokesperson revealed Lydia passed on peacefully in the arms of her husband.
It was her last wish to marry her best friend.
