Here’s the text transcript of the video.

Why should the wedding ring be worn on the fourth finger

There is a beautiful and convincing explanation given by the Chinese

Thumb represents your parents. The second finger or the index finger represents your siblings. The middle finger represents your self. The fourth finger or the ring finger represents your life partner. The little finger represents your children.

Firstly open your palms face-to-face bend the middle fingers and hold them together back-to-back secondly open and hold the remaining three fingers tip to tip.

Try to separate your thumbs which representing the parents, they will open because your parents are not destined to live with you for the rest of your lives. They will leave you sooner or later. Join your thumbs as before and separate your index fingers representing siblings. They will also open because your brothers and sisters will have their own families and will have to live their own separate lives. Now join the index fingers and separate your little fingers representing your children they will open too because children will grow up get married and settle down on their own some day. Join your little fingers and try to separate your ring fingers which
represents your spouse you will be surprised to see that you just cannot separate them because husband and wife are meant to be together all their lives, through thick and thin.

I have seen this before, but it is good to be reminded about this very nice metaphor about the stability of marriage. I cannot wear my wedding ring on my ring finger anymore though, it does not fit anymore – haha!

Never heard of this but I just tried it now and I’m amazed! The reason I know is that one of the nerves from the ring finger connects directly to the heart… that’s what I used to know but this is an additional information! Thanks for sharing. I will share this to my friends.

Hope newly weds would be told this so they’d be encouraged to stay together and avoid divorces and annulments.

I’ve seen this already and wow I was so amazed! Now I know why. Fun fact though, sometimes I don’t want a ring. I want a tattoo of a half of a heart and my partner will have one too so if ever you connect each other’s fingers, the heart will look as a whole heart

I’ve never heard this version. I’ve always heard the one from the Romans that the vein in that finger ran directly to the heart. Both of these versions are great!

I love this idea, it’s truly fascinating. I tried to do what they did in the video, and unless you lift the middle finger (which symbolizes yourself) your ring fingers will not separate at all. In other words, you must both be in the relationship. Pretty neat!
