What’s the Average Wedding Budget in America?
You finally found ‘The One’! Congratulations! But after the excitement of the engagement is over, you now have to prepare for your wedding. And while that is also quite exciting on its own, you have to prepare for the financial aspects that weddings entail.
Did you know that the average wedding budget in America is around $33,000? While there are, of course, weddings that cost much less than that, there are also weddings that cost more – even reaching over $100,000!
How much you will actually spend on your wedding will depend entirely on you and your partner but we’re sharing here some ballpark figures to give you an idea.
Engagement Ring, $5,000 to $13,000
Because engagement rings have diamonds, they can be quite expensive. The least you can spend on one is at around $5,000 but some guys spend as much as $13,000 on the piece.
Wedding Rings, $2,000 to $20,000
While we’re at the subject of rings, let’s look at wedding rings. Thankfully, these are much cheaper than engagement rings because you can always go with the simple gold band. The national average for wedding bands is at around $2,000 for both rings; however, the number could go up a couple of thousands if you wish to have wedding rings that match the engagement rings (including the diamonds).
Wedding/Reception Venue, $15,000 to $45,000
If you’re lucky enough to have a huge, beautiful lawn where you can hold the party, then you can save a few thousands with the wedding/reception venue. Most weddings spend at least $15,000 on the wedding venue; the number could go up to $45,000 or more!
Ceremony Site, $2,000 to $3,000
While a lot of couples still want to get married in church, there’s a trend towards doing the wedding ceremony at the reception venue. Still, this could entail an additional cost of around $2,000 to $3,000 due to the extra decorations and set up.
Wedding Gown, $1,500 to $5,000
As the star of the show, the bride often gets to wear the most expensive piece in the wedding – and that could be anywhere from $1,500 to $5,000.
Wedding Planner, $2,000 to $4,000
These days, it’s easier to hire a wedding planner to make sure everything is easier and better on your wedding day but that does mean an extra cost. But most brides swear it’s really better to hire a planner than feel stressed out at all times.
Wedding Photographer, $2,500 to $6,000
You’d surely want to preserve your beautiful wedding moments in pictures that you can browse through in the coming years. While most people these days have smartphones to take good photos, it’s still best to hire wedding photographers to best do the job.
Wedding Videographer, $2,000 to $4,000
You can strike a deal with the photographer to also have the videographer team but sometimes it’s better to pick a different group to handle the video portion so your photographer can focus on taking those precious photos.
Ceremony Musicians, $1,000 to $1,500
Musicians for the ceremony could cost anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500 but reception musicians charge more!
Reception Musicians, $4,000 to $7,500
Tasked to entertain you and your guests throughout the reception, these musicians often charge more. It’s best to hire a band but they could charge anywhere from $4,000 to $7,500.
Florists and Décor, $2,500 to $6,000
The wedding is not complete without the bride’s bouquet as well as various flowers in the ceremony and reception venues, not to mention the flowers for the entourage. Depending on the flowers and design you pick, this could cost at least $2,500 and up to $6,000.
Wedding Cake, $500 to $2,000
The wedding cake is probably the least costly you’ll ever be buying on your wedding day but the amount still depends on the cake you pick, of course.
Whew! That’s really a lot of expenses for a one-day event, right? But you only get married once (hopefully) and this remains one of the most important occasions in a person’s life; so, just save up for these expenses and have a wonderful wedding!
